This Cookie Policy explains how Draw My Tree, operated by Prescott Bros LLC, uses cookies and similar browser storage. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.
What cookies and local storage are
Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. "Local storage" is a related browser mechanism that lets a site keep small amounts of data on your device. Both let the app remember things between visits.
What we use
- Strictly necessary: authentication. Our sign-in provider, Clerk, sets cookies that keep you securely signed in and protect against fraud. The Service cannot function without these.
- Preferences. We store your display preferences, such as text size and the tree's appearance settings, in your browser's local storage so the app looks the way you left it.
- Guest trees. If you build a tree without an account, that tree is kept on your device in your browser's IndexedDB storage until you sign up and save it. Photos from it that your account can't take yet (on the free plan, more than one per person) wait in a separate part of that storage, tied to your account, until they upload; signing out doesn't remove them. Clearing your browser data removes the tree and the waiting photos.
- Analytics. Our product analytics keeps an identifier in your browser, never in a cookie. Until you sign in it is a random one; when you sign in, your account's identifier takes its place, and the activity recorded under the random one is linked to your account. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, or we can't tell which country you are in, it is kept in session storage: each tab keeps its own, and it ends when the tab closes. Elsewhere it is kept in local storage, so it stays the same across your tabs and visits in that browser until you sign out or clear the browser's data. There, when you create an account, a separate local-storage entry holds your account's identifier to record that your sign-up was counted, so it is counted once in that browser. Signing out replaces the analytics identifier with a new random one and removes the sign-up entry. The country is the one Cloudflare infers from your connection. Besides making this choice, our analytics records it with what you do in the app, as the country alone: your IP address is never sent to our analytics, so it holds nothing more precise than a country.
- Payments. When you subscribe or buy a Keepsake, our payments provider Polar may set cookies on its hosted checkout that are needed to process the payment securely.
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell information collected through cookies.
Managing cookies
You can clear or block cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in and using core features, and clearing local storage will remove guest trees and reset your preferences.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Service changes. When we do, we will update the effective date above.
